September 10: Charcoal and Ink Postcard Painting
Contemporary Painter and Muralist Jen Charboneau will speak on her sketching and painting process which combines numerous mediums and repetitive movement exercises. She will lead the class in experimentation with charcoal and ink and each participant will create a postcard painting to take home or trade.
October 8: Mask Making
Naomi "Di Vine" De Vore is a mixed media artist based in Reno, NV. In addition to working professionally as a glass etching artist, Naomi is a collaborator, community art curator, painter and painting instructor as well as an actor with Dark Corner Haunted House. At the Sparks Library this October, she'll be leading a mask-making workshop and encouraging kids to become anything they can dream up by providing material, encouragement and instruction to create one-of-a-kind costumes to take home and wear around.
November 12: Holiday Greeting Cards
Ruth Flagg is a multidisciplinary artist working in fiber and multimedia crafts. She will be offering a greeting card making class just in time for the holidays. Students will learn how to stamp, cut and color with various paper craft tools including watercolor pens, inks, colored pencils, scissors and punches. Envelopes will also be provided.
December 10 – Exploring Color
Noah Bristol is a life coach, art educator, and artist working with color and the way our culture influences how and what we can see. His collages and drawings arrange color according to the standards of beloved brands like Crayola, pointing us to the limitations of these man-made color systems compared to the vast array of colors we can see with our own human eyes. He will lead participants through an all-ages drawing exercise that explores color from multiple angles.
January 14 – Metal Stamped Jewelry
Shelly Cournoyer is a metalsmith artist and educator. Her background training merges jewelry and blacksmithing into everyday wearable jewelry, wearable sculptures, and standalone sculptures. She will be talking about her creative journey, working from raw material as well as up-cycling and combining disregarded “trash into treasure “, while discussing the symbolism of objects around us. Shelly will be leading participants through a custom hammer stamped pendant on a macrame necklace incorporating beads as a crafting activity.
February 11 – Recycled Art Journals
Mixed media artist and designer, Marissa N. Tolliver, will be discussing her recent works using reclaimed and recycled materials to explore and express emotions. She will be guiding participants through hand-binding and decorating their own art journal from recycled materials
